Three Pillars of The Valley View Institute

Christian Story

Christian Story

The most fundamental and important claim in Christian theology is that God has made himself known in Scripture. We’ll spend several months working through the major storyline of the Bible to come to a greater understanding of who God is and what he has done to reconcile the world to himself through the person and work of Jesus Christ. This will have us studying both the Old and New Testaments as well as significant periods of church history.

Christian Belief

Christian Belief

All Christian belief and theology is rooted in what is revealed in Scripture. As the curriculum surveys Story, we’ll also spend significant time teaching and articulating the major doctrines of the Christian faith.

Christian Formation

Christian Formation

A major component of the Institute is considering how Story and Belief shape us into the kind of people who live in the world according to the way of Jesus. In the Institute, we’ll seek to form people into whole disciples by helping them engage in a variety of formation exercises and spiritual disciplines, with the intent of becoming fluent in the gospel message.

FAQ

The Institute follows the school year calendar (August-May) and takes the form of a weekly class on Wednesday nights (6:00-7:45p). Class sessions are comprised of lecture, table discussion, and formation exercises.  Additionally, participants complete 2-3 hours of reading and homework outside of the classroom each week.  The program culminates in a short, multi-day mission trip.

While the Institute is primarily for our members, membership is not a requirement to participate. However, given the intense nature of the program's curriculum, it is required that anyone interested in the Institute have participated in some other group or study prior to the program. All interested parties will need to apply for the program and acceptance is contingent upon a review of our leadership team.

Leadership of the Institute is shared among the pastoral staff of Valley View Christian Church.  While most of the lectures will be taught by our pastoral staff, participants will also hear from elders, lay leaders, and local academics.

The cost of the Institute is $250 and helps to cover the cost of building use, guest speakers, snacks and drinks, and other related expenses.
